Park Chan-Ho, the Korean ex-MLB pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates may be retired from the Major leagues but he continues to make headline with his charity work.

This past Monday Park Chan-ho donated equipment and a free lesson to a youth club in Vietnam which included gloves and cleats. Parki s a goodwill ambassador for the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and last Friday he met with the Hanoi-based club Hanoi Capitals.

The EDCF is a state fund launched in 1987 and is designed to help less-developed countries by giving loans with low interest rates. The Export-Import Bank of Korea, the state-run lender, is in charge of administrative operation of the EDCF.

Park, 41, was born in Gongju, South Korea and in 1992-1992 was a member of the South Korea national baseball team and posted a 2.76 ERA in the Asian Baseball Championship in 1993 where they earned the silver medal.

He became the first South Korean to play in the majors when he debuted with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994. He pitched in parts of 17 seasons with seven different teams in the bigs and earned 124 career wins, more than any other Asian-born pitcher.
