For the second day of the 2024 French Open tennis betting
fans have been brimming with excitement. This is because so far, there has been
a lot of upsets with lots of favorite losing and winning their matches. Earlier
today, we got to see one as Alexander Zverev defeats Ralph Nadal in the first
round of the tournament.
Even though Nadal was the underdog, this did not stop several gamblers from taking a risk at a +290 money line. However, this time around it did not pay off. Alexander Zverev weathered a mid-match storm from 14-time champion Rafael Nadal Monday to win their first-round Roland Garros blockbuster 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3. While most tennis betting tips were suggesting betting on Zverer, the crowd was in Nadal’s corner.
Nadal showcased glimpses of his vintage top-tier tennis,
particularly with his signature forehand passing shot. However, Zverev's
powerful serve, aggressive forehand, and composure under pressure ultimately
proved insurmountable after a grueling three-hour and five-minute battle.
Upon reflecting on the match, Zverev expressed his gratitude
to Nadal in his on-court interview, acknowledging the honor of competing
against such a tennis legend. Despite the outcome, Zverev humbly credited Nadal
for his exceptional performance and the opportunity to face him on the
prestigious court. Today, Zverev recognized that the spotlight belonged to
Nadal, emphasizing his respect and appreciation for the tennis icon.
From the moment the draw was announced, anticipation for
this highly-anticipated clash at Roland Garros intensified. This rematch of
their previous semi-final encounter two years ago captivated tennis
enthusiasts, as they recalled the intense battle that lasted over three hours
before Zverev was unfortunately sidelined by a severe ankle injury.
Alexander Zverev defeats Ralph Nadal - 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3
According to tennis
news, this is the first time that Rafael
Nadal lost in the first round of the French Open. Rafael Nadal's bid for the
men's singles French Open title was cut short in the opening round when he was
defeated by Alexander Zverev in straight sets on Monday.
There was an abundance of anticipation for the match as Novak Djokovic, Carlos
Alcaraz, and WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek were all seated in the stands to witness the
action. The competition was fiercely contested for a straight-sets match, with
every moment where Nadal appeared to gain momentum, Zverev had a response to
regain control.
Throughout the match, Nadal delivered scorching forehand
passing shots on multiple occasions and excited the spectators with vigorous
fist pumps in an attempt to regain control. However, a poorly executed drop
shot in the second-set tie-break proved to be pivotal. Once Zverev secured a
two-set advantage, the task ahead seemed like a daunting challenge for Nadal.
Zverev became only the third player to defeat Nadal at
Roland Garros, alongside Djokovic (2) and Robin Soderling. Following just the
third first-round loss at a Grand Slam in his illustrious career, Nadal's
record at the clay-court major now stands at 112-4. After Zverev's on-court
interview, Nadal was given the opportunity to address the Parisian crowd.
"It's challenging for me to express myself. I'm not
certain if this will be the last time I stand in front of all of you, to be
honest," Nadal stated. "I'm not completely sure, but if it is the
last time, I have cherished every moment. The crowd has been incredible
throughout the entire week of preparation, and the emotions I am feeling today
are indescribable. It is truly special for me to feel the love of the people in
the place that I hold dearest."
